Legal Question in Family Law in Arizona

????

My ex and I are going to court, my ex wants full custody of my 16 yr old son. i don't want to allow him full custody but the other day i got an email from my son stating he didn't want me in his life anymore. if i still want to fight full custody and keep it joint custody which it's been since my son was 7 can i do that? my question is since my son is old enough to decide what he wants and will be 18 in a little over a year can i keep joint custody if he doesn't want me in his life?

Custody has nothing to do with wishes of the child, but parenting time does. Generally the court will look to see if the two of you can still make parental decisions together, if you can there is no reason for sole custody. It sounds as if your son is more concerned with where he lives and parenting time. These are two different concepts. You can agree to modify parenting time without modifying custody.
