Divorce/Separation

My parents have been separated for over 30 years, can either of them be held liable to care for the other if one of them becomes sick, they have been legaly separted for over 30 years

Are you sure they are legally separated or are they physically separated? If legal then they should be protected. If just physical then they are always exposed from creditors of the other.
