Legal Question in Family Law in Arizona

I was granted coustody of my granddaughter in 1996

In July of 1996 while living in Tennessee I was granted coustody of my Granddaughter. In Feb. 1997 I went back before the judge and had my husbands name added on so we could get our Granddaughter added on to his insurance. The papers read ''Coustody of the above mentioned child is hereby awarded to (husbands name and my name) with the authority to make the appropriate plans for care and supervision.

This order is effective for the next twelve (12) months, thereafter, or futher orders of the court.

I need to know if this notarized document is still

valid or do I need to petition the courts of AZ. to update it. Thank you.

It is hard to answer your question without actually seeing the document, but from the way you've described the order, it sounds like the "thereafter or further orders of the court" part means that the custody document is still valid (it hasn't been modified by court order). To renew, modify or enforce the document in AZ, you will need to file it here as a foreign judgment.
