Legal Question in Family Law in Arizona
Can my husband adopt my daughter and change her last name
I used to live in hawaii and had my daughter in hawaii with my ex-boyfriend, we were never married. Before I moved to Arizona, we settled a custody battle in court and I won and was able to move to Arizona. Now i am married and want have my husband legally adopt her and change her last name. My ex hasn't seen her since she was one and really doesn't contact her. What kind of process shall i begin to change everything?

The process depends on whether or not the biological father is willing to consent to the adoption. We offer a free initial consultation, so please contact our office to schedule a time to meet with one of our attorneys to discuss teh details of your case.

Re: Can my husband adopt my daughter and change her last name
You need to start with a "Petition for Termination" in Order to free up the child's rights for a step-parent adoption. My associate Carlie Owsley Walker handles all of our step-parent adoption matters. She can absolutely help.
She can explain the procedures better by phone or in person. As you can imagine, there is too much to cover via e'mail. We offer free 1/2 hour consultations, in which we can discuss the matter in more detail.
Please call Carlie directly to discuss the specifics of your case, or contact her assistant Alicia or her paralegal Jennifer to schedule a free 1/2 hour consultation.
