Legal Question in Family Law in Arizona
My husband and I divorced about 16 years ago. We have joint custody with placement with me of our 16 year old son. My ex has never payed child support or helped with medical bills (my son has had 3 surgeries) as it states in the divorce decree. When I lived in Iowa I was under state assistance and now that I live in Arizona and teach I don't receive it. I have tried to find out how to get him to pay back and current support but to no avail. Being a single parent with a teacher's salary, I can't afford to pay an attorney. My son recently had spinal fusion surgery and now needs braces. What can I do in Arizona to begin the process of making him responsible? He lives in Florida.
Thank you for your time.

You can either file a motion to enforce through superior court. The forms are available on the superior court web site at www.superiorcourt.maricopa.gov. Or, you can work with a paralegal(feel free to call my office) in order to get them done. You can also try the Department of Economic Security which offers free services for enforcement of child support. In this fashion unfortunately it does take a while.
