Legal Question in Family Law in Arizona

need info on divorce

I am a single mom and when I filed my divorce the first time it was denied, after a paralegal did the paperwork. The problem is that I dont have the money to spend on a lawyer and according to the rules I make too much money for legal aid. But do to the financial situation I dont have the money you would need to hire a real lawyer. The question is, is there any place that I can go to get help with doing the paper work so I can file and get this done and over?

Re: need info on divorce

Thank you for your inquiry. You didn't mention whether or not you expect any disputes from your husband about the case, so for now, I'm presuming that the divorce will be relatively straightforward. I offer "unbundled" legal services. This means that I can assist you with your paperwork ("behind the scenes"), but you would still represent yourself. I offer initial consultations of $60 for one hour, and during that time, we could review the paperwork you attempted to file to see if it requires minor revisions or a major overhaul. If you want assistance preparing new paperwork, my time is billed at $180 per hour (pay-as-you-go for unbundled services), and my legal assistant is billed at $75 per hour. Please contact our office to schedule your initial consultation and we can discuss your options.

Sincerely,

Monica Donaldson

Re: need info on divorce

I read Ms. Donaldson's letter, and agree strongly that "unbundled services" like she offers are a good deal if you have any hesitancy at all to do the divorce yourself. However, if you'd really like to do it yourself, the courts of Arizona run 13 "self-service centers" around the state, where all the right forms are available, and you can ask questions. The web site listing the locations is:

www.supreme.state.az.us/selfserv/locations.htm

Also, since you are computer savvy, you might try the on-line self-service center:

www.supreme.state.az.us/selfserv/

The site has information from A to Z about filing for your own divorce (info about child support, the laws, how to file, etc)and you can download any forms you need right from the site. I hope this helps you.
