Legal liability for a 17 year old drug addict

Is there a process that would release a 17 year old's parents from financial responsibiilty and legal responsibility for crimes committed by that 17 year old? The bottom line is that this teenagers parents do not want to be held legally responsible for thier drug addicted teenage son who refuses to get help.

Re: Legal liability for a 17 year old drug addict

I have in the past drafted an Agreement between parents and child that the child has "emancipated", and is thus responsible for his own expenses and debts. However, I limit my practice in the area of family law, and cannot give you a definitive answer as to whether this Agreement, in and of itself, would protect you from any of his potential creditors. I believe it does, but would have to do a little research to confirm.

Please call me directly if you would like to discuss such an Agreement.
