minor leaving parent's home

17 year old boy wants to leave home. Mother has asked him t leave. Can we legally take him in? If not can he qualify for somthing like welfare so he can finish high school living on his own?

You have many options. Mother can give you a "6 Month Delegation of Parental Authority". Or, the son can "declare emancipation". You could seek guardianship, but the time is so short, that may be more cost and effort than is necessary.

I cannot answer whether just taking him would be sufficient for school enrollment, health insurance, etc. You would need to ask the individual school or carrier. Each have different policies, and some or more "formal" than others.
