which party does the court favor?

I have heard that Arizona is a state that favors the mother when deciding custody cases. Is this true?

That is not true. The court presumes both parties are fit to make decisions over the children. Unless there is a fitness issues(abuse, addiction etc) then joint custody is presumed.
