Legal Question in Family Law in Arizona

Postponing child support and alimony

In about a month or so, I will be out of work. My company will be closing its doors. I am actively trying to find another job. I am also 100% up to date on my child support and alimony obligations. I was told by two AZ attornies that I need to file for a postponement or suspension of child support and alimony if I become unemployed. I want to stay legal.

I have looked over the Mericopa County Supreme Court Self Service web site and cannot find the forms.

What is the name of the document I need to fill out and file with the courts to get this postponement done?

Re: Postponing child support and alimony

what you are referring to is a Petition to Modify. The court won' just change things because of your job loss. The court might make the modified order retroactive to the date of the filing of the petition or the first of the month after service of the petition on your ex spouse. You need to take the affirmative action of asking the court to modify the order. Until the court enters an order otherwise, your obligations remain unchanged.
