Legal Question in Family Law in Arizona

I recently went through a divorce and my ex was suppose to pay me my portion of the business we had by January 31rst. We have a home that is up on the market and needed a some repairs done before the house sold and it is stated in the decree that we both pay half he is still in the home and my portion was suppose to come out when the house sold He cut me a check for what he was suppose to pay for the business but he took my portion out for the home repairs out of what he was suppose to pay me for the business my question is that this is to separte things a business and home repairs can he mix the two .I told him to send me what he owed me for our business and i would cut him a check for what i owed on the home repairs. When i do my taxes next year will that show a loss for me since it was not for the full amount. and can he do that legally. Thank you Annette

You're asking about offsets. If he shows you proof of what the repairs cost so you can determine what your half of the cost would be, and he accurately subtracted that from the amount he owed you for your half of the business, then it would be acceptable. Any tax questions you will want to consult with a CPA or tax attorney, which I am not.

Best of luck!
