Responsibilities as the beneficiary
If a family member passes and the living family members were not appointed beneficiary legally can the living family force the insurance beneficiary pay for the funeral expenses?

Insurance company paying death benefits can require that proceeds are paid to the proper beneficiary. If the policy has a named beneficiary then they must pay when presented with a copy of the certificate of death and proper identification. If payable to the estate then they can require that a personal representative for the estate be appointed before they pay the money.
