Legal Question in Family Law in Arizona
seperation and taxes
My husband filed for legal seperation last year, and in the decree he stated that we file our taxes seperately. We have since reconciled, and wish to remove the agreement and are hoping that we can file jointly despite what was written. My husband is worried about penalties, due to the fact that at the time he put the seperation into effect he was unemployed, and in order to receive legal and medical aid, he was advised to have our finances completely seperated. The medical aid in turn repaired our marriage, but now were ''stuck'' wondering about the legal side. Can we file jointly without problems or penalties, or do we file seperately?

Re: seperation and taxes
YOu can file any way you want IF you agree. However, if you are actually legally separated, you may not be able to file jointly. You should consult a tax expert or accountant on that issue.
