Legal Question in Family Law in Arizona

In the state of Arizona do aunts have any rights to see nephews/nieces, similar the "grandparents rights"? I have had a falling out with my sister and am concerned she may keep me from seeing them, although I have a healthy relationship with her husband and the kids.

Thanks, Yolanda

Unfortunately, no. Grandparents have attenuated rights; that is, their rights are subject to the wishes of the parents. Other, more distance relatives have no legal rights. I wish it were different, but that is the law at present. I am sorry. Now that being said, if the parents were not taking proper care of the kids, you could apply for "in loco parentis," which means "standing in the place of a parent," where you would ask a court for temporary custody or guardianship. It does not sound like that is your situation here, at least not at this point. Again, I'm sorry.
