Will a notarized docuemt stand up in a court of law?

My ex has agreed to do away with spousal maintenance and any arrears. I am having her sign a notarized document stating this. Can I file this document in a court of law? Or do I have to petition the court?

Your BEST step is to insure that the agreement becomes a Court Order. But, if you are trying to save steps/money, then my answer would depend upon whether this money comes out of your pay (i.e. do you have an Order of Assignment). If so, then you must take more formal steps. If not, you could choose to not take more formal steps, but I think this is risky.
