Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Arizona

Ground Clearance Posting for Service Station Canopies

Does the State of Arizona have any law governing the height requirement for overhead wires, canopies, etc. or any law governing the posting of ground clearance height for gas station canopies, awnings, etc.?

My research suggests that this type of statute would be found in the city laws pertaining to your particular city. Sorry I can't do better for you but a call to a local contractor will give you your answer. These men and women are generally very happy to answer one quick question.

Re: Ground Clearance Posting for Service Station Canopies

Dear Questioner:

You can find your answer by going to the city, (Ex. Phoenix, Scotsdale, Yuma, etc) and checking the "Municipal Codes" or whether each such city has merely adopted the Uniform Building Codes. Ex California adopted and MODIFIED and each City has its own set of rules, ex: Los Angeles is different from San Dimas or Calabasas.

Generally there will be a minimum canopy height so that fuel and other large trucks don't upset the canopy when they off load or load.

The question is very very narrow and can only be responded to by a local Buidling Department. Call the city and ask--speak to someone in Planning or plan check departments. They will either answer your question or direct you to the appropriate section on the Web to get your own answer.

Also, variances can be obtained or if an existing structure rather than one to be built, the ansswers might change as well.

Sincerely,
