Re: illegal immigration
Unfortunately, the only way for your friend to become legal is to leave the country and go through consular process. In this case your friend will face a 10 year bar to enter the United States because of his/her long illegal presence here. The only way to avoid a 10year bar is to ask for a waiver based on extreme and unusual hardship for his/her spouse or parents. It is very hard to prove and you need to seek help from an immigration attorney if you decide to proceed with this matter.
