change in compensation without notification

i work in a position that is gratuity based. i was hired with the understanding that i would be paid a certain portion or ''cut'' of the gratuity. this understanding was not done in writing. my cut of the gratuity has been decreased without notification to give my boss a larger portion. i became aware of this decrease without my boss' knowledge by stumbling upon some information. was this decrease legal?

from the facs given, your boss' behaviour is illegal since you had a written contract stating what your percentage was to be. your boss cannot unilaterally modify this agreement without your assent and new consideration being shown. if you would like further assistance, email me today with more facts, what the contract states, and how much in monetary damages have you suffered so far from his/her illegal breach of contract.
