Can a construction company employer make employees work without compensation to correct their own mistakes or defective work?

Thanks for the inquiry. If you are an hourly, non-exempt employee, the employer cannot force you to work without compensation. If this extra work ever requires the employee to work overtime, the employer is in violation of the FLSA.
