employment - vacation time
when I was employed by my current employer, in Arizona, I signed a paper agreeing to their rules for their benefits. those rules stated that after one year of employment, you get one week of vacation time, and after two year, two weeks. My employer just released a memo saying that all employees that qualify for two weeks of vacation per year, now only get one. I have already qualified for the two weeks vacation (on my pay stub and everything). But now he's saying that I will only have one week. Can he do this? Is there anything I can do to get my vacation time back?

We're in harsh economic times, and employers are making tough decisions. If you wanted to, you could push to enforce what seems to amount to an employment agreement, as you describe it. Unless that employment agreement also guarantees you future employment, however, you are risking your job to try to enforce your vacation time.

You probably are entitled to the vacation time, as long as you already performed whatever tasks were necessary to earn it. An employer can not retroactively take from you benefits you already earned. It is possible, though, the handbook in question gives them some flexibility in this sort of matter.
