Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Arizona

I was renting a modular home for about 3 years. The last 2 mnths due to a change in income I was no longer able to pay my rent. I know that I owe this money and have expressed to my previous landlord that when I can afford it I would start making payments to her. Unfortunatly since I moved out about 3 months ago my financial situation hasnt improved. She is now wanting to take me to court to collect the due money. There was no written lease aggreement at the time of move in or anytime during my stay. Without a written agreement can she take me to court? What can I do?

Any agreement for leasing property for a year or more must be in writing, so your former landlord erred in that respect. Yet a court would likely uphold the spirit of the verbal agreement and all surrounding circumstances and find that you owe the money. Best of luck to you.
