As a Professional Structural Engineer if I get sued by a client will property held in a living trust be protected against a law suit?

Probably not. Placing your own assets in a living trust in which you are the trustor and beneficiary will not shield you from your own creditors. This is one of the great myths in the law. If it were true, no creditor in the United States would be able to collect from a debtor; they would simply place all their assets in a trust.
You can shield your beneficiaries from their creditors.
There are steps people can take which will offer them asset protection. See an estate attorney who is familiar with this. Your best protection, of course, is professional liability insurance.
