Car ditching in Mexico
Hello,
A friend has a car with a lien on it for a small amount of money. This person has not paid on the car in many years, and apparently the item is no longer on his credit report after working with a credit company. No one has tried to repo it, etc etc etc. Now they want the car to go away without paying the money ($800), so they are planning to take it to Mexico and leave it. They think that they cannot get into trouble because once they cross into Mexico ''it is out of jurisdiction'' and no one can do anything. Is this true? Doesn't this just make it federal?? And can't the vehicle be towed back and he would be found responsible for the charges??

Your friend still owes the money. It does not matter where the car is located or if the debt shows up on his credit report. The lender can still sue your friend to collect the debt (and attorneys' fees and costs).
On the other hand, if it has been more than 6 years since your friend stopped paying on the loan, it may be too late for the lender to do anything about it.
Your friend should talk to a lawyer about this before he ends up getting sued for fraud.
