Contract for Deed / Land Contract

If I sell a home with a Land Contract do I also have to have a promissory note?

In the past I have used a Deed of Trust and a Promissory Note but to me the Land Contract seems to already have all the similar wording as the Promissory note has and it seems like I wouldn't need the note.
