Mortgage paperwork

Where can I get copies of my mortgage papers without calling the mortgage company? Is it filed with the state somewhere?

You can try the escrow company which handled the transaction and you can search the records of the county where the property is located to find the recorded deed of trust.

You may be able to obtain copies of all of your mortgage documents from the closing agent who closed your loan/purchase transaction. You can also obtain a copy of your mortgage from the recorders office for your county.

Most counties have a county recorders office with all these records on file.
