Can I recover damages from my lender for failure to extend the rate lock, which was the direct result of the loss of the loan and the house?

It is possible, but no one could say without review of the loan documentation and the surrounding facts. You should retain counsel to give you a better answer.

If there were oral statements to extend the rate lock by the lender or its representatives and you could prove them, you could recover.
