Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Arizona

renters rights

We have three months left on our lease, we have been asked to pay in cash, which we do,though we have never been late and have a very good credit rating. Now he wants to put a for sale sign up, put a key in a lock

box and show the house. He is calling

every day and really becoming a pain.

Besides telling him to go____, is there anything else we can do.

This question should be submitted in the Landlord-Tenant category, not the Real Estate Category. Please re-submit, so attorneys who represent landlords or tenants can answer your question.

Good luck.

P.S. Look at your written lease, see what it says about entrance for buyers, realtors etc. I bet it says landlord can enter for inspection and repairs, but not for other reasons, like marketing. With a lockbox on your house, realtors can enter when you are not there, and people will show up to see the house unannounced. You might want to change the lock on the front door, then give a key to the landlord when you move out. You might negotiate something with the landlord, like a reduction in rent for your inconvenience.

P.S.S. Never pay your rent in cash, pay by check. Then you can show a track record of timely payments for your credit rating if you try to buy a house. Otherwise, you will have to keep all the receipts to show them.

Good luck.
