Legal Question in Tax Law in Arizona

Is the IRS trying to collect extra money

I won an innocent spouse award. IRS give my ex 30 days to respond. received letter that ex protested, IRS will not give me the information of when or what he protested. The ex has moved 8 times in 2 years and I believe he does not even know about the award. Is the IRS just trying to collect extra pentalties and interest? I have called the IRS number on the letter about 10 times with no return call, went to the IRS and they stated they do not have to tell me when or what he protested and that they will make a decision in 90 days. Again, beleive they are just trying to collect extra money from me. The ex lived in AZ (again) this past three months but again on the move. Also, saw that he still owes the IRS over $30,000.,I really beleive in my heart since this man owes money to the IRS,why would he in contact with them and just protest my award. Again, is the IRS just trying to collect an extra 90 days worth of pentalties and interst since I won the award of innocent spouse? Thank for your assistance in this matter.

Re: Is the IRS trying to collect extra money

Given that your Ex submitted a protest, that challenged your claim you have the following options:!. Submit an appeal, title it Protest, 2. Send a Freedom of Info req, asking for full file 3. After a notice of def, 90 letter, file case in tax court 4. Pay the tax, and file case for refund in U.S. Court of Fed Claims.
