The way a stepchild gets the right to inherit from a step-parent, is to be adopted or to be provided for in the step-parent's Will and/or Trust, or to be designated as a beneficiary of certain assets. You need to have your husband consult with an experienced estate planning lawyer to discuss what he should do to provide for his step-child.
