The answer depends on what you are hiring the attorney for and what the trust documents say.

In general, the Trustee of a trust is entitled to hire an attorney to obtain legal counsel and advice regarding the administration of the trust and the trustee's authority, duties and obligations.
Most trust agreements provide for the trustee to have the authority to hire lawyers, accountants and others to help the trustee administer the trust business.
If there is any doubt, you can petition the probate court and seek approval to hire counsel.
