Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Arkansas
Bankruptcy in Arkansas
Where can I find out information concerning personal (family) bankruptcy in Arkansas? I would like to be able to examine options concerning filing for bankruptcy, and want to know if one's home is exempt from creditors, etc. Please help.

You should contact an attorney in your location who practices in the area of bankruptcy. The exemptions may be specific to your state and you need an attorney's advice. You will also get the additional advice you need. Good Luck.

Re: Bankruptcy in Arkansas
Basically, there are two kinds of personal bankruptcy: Chapter 7, under which the bankrupt surrenders all his (non-exempt) property and gets a discharge from nearly all his debts, and Chapter 13, under which the bankrupt makes regular payments for three to five years, and receives a discharge. Some people are not eligible for Chapter 7, but m6ay be eligible for help under Chapter 13.
If you cannot afford a lawyer, turn to your local legal aid society. Many bar associations have panels of lawyers willing to work for reduced fees.
A good bookstore may also have self-help books which explaion the procedure, or try www.amazon.com or www.barnesandnoble.com. However, there is a serious risk of misunderstanding the law and making mistakes which can badly hurt you, if you try to do it without a lawyer.
Good luck!
