Bankruptcy information, where to get it
You can get some info on line at: www.mab.uscourts.gov/general.htm
Arkansas is divided into an Eastern and a Western region for the Federal Bankruptcy Courts. The western area can be reached by phone at (501) 582-9800, Eastern at (501) 918-5500.
Contact your local bar referral service and see if they can refer you to an attorney. If you file the papers wrong, you don't get the relief you are entitled to by law. You cannot refile, so you could end up ruining your credit, and not get relief. This is like self administered brain surgery, you really cannot afford NOT to get professional help. Good luck.
Pro Se Bankruptcy Filing
This is something you do not want to do by yourself. Please contact your local bar or legal services agency for help locating an attorney. Filing bankruptcy, although not difficult, is very technical and precise. You could risk doing more harm than good. Also, in my experience, bankruptcy trustees are relunctant to let pro se filers proceed without the aid of an attorney, at least here in my district.
Pro-Se Chapter 7 Bankruptcy
Yes, you can file a "Pro-Se" Chapter 7 Bankruptcy. The forms are available from many stationary stores. But by doing so, you are acting as your own lawyer, and, frankly, you may not have the expertise to do a good job for yourself. My advise would be to contact a lawyer with experience in bankruptcy work, and try to stay away from the guy(s) who advertise on late night TV; their fees tend to be higher than other practitioners. After all, someone has to pay for that TV ad!
