headstone for an illegitimate baby born dead

we have a great grandchild who was born dead. we want to put a headstone on his grave. he was illegitimate & the father contributed nothing to his mediacal or funeral bills. do we have to put the fathers last name on the head stone?

If you purchase the headstone it can say whatever you want it to say. I am assuming that you own the grave and that the putative father did not pay anything towards interment.

Frankly, if a guy doesn't care enough to be a part of the child's birth, etc., it is unlikely he'll give a hoot about how the headstone reads.

I have not checked any statutes in New York, and I am not admitted in New York, so before taking action you might get an opinion from a local attorney to be on the safe side.
