what is the law regarding the amount of time a person can be locked up before their first court appearance and what do i do if this time frame ahs past?

There are statutes that regulate the amount of time a person may be incarcerated before a hearing takes place. There are different times for different circumstances. There can also be extenuating circumstances that can change that amount of time. What were your charges, have you had a preliminary hearing, arraignment, has bail been set? When were you formally charged? Has a date been set for your trial?
