Re: how do i find a pro bono attorney
Unfortunately, I don't think there is an exhaustive list of attorneys that do "pro bono" work because all attorneys do it. The issue is finding one that has the time and resources to take on your case.
It seems to me that you qualify for a public defender ("PD") based on your post. Since that is the case, you should probably use them.
From what I understand, your PD suggested that you to plead guilty to the charges. If you do not want to plead guilty, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO. You are entitled to representation by the PD office and a trial on the charges.
I realize that you dismissed the appointed PD. What I would do is contact the Court (or appear at the appointed date) and explain why you "fired" the original PD. Tell him that you wanted to contest the charges and not enter into a plea agreement. Ask the Court to again appoint the PD office because you cannot afford an attorney.
Good luck.
