Legal Question in Criminal Law in Arkansas

What does a Police K-9 have to hit on to constitute a search?

I'm not looking for technicalities, I'm just curious. In a small town outside of Little Rock, we were pulled over. The officer stated that he noticed the year sticker had been glued on to the tag; he ran the tags and it came back a different vehicle. The driver had no insurance and had warrants for outstanding fines;she was arrested. The front seat passenger had no warrants, but had no ID and gave a false name; he was arrested. I had ID and no record. I was searched and stood behind the vehicle, until something was discovered in the front of the van; I was arrested. The dog was brought out around this time; he was ran around the van, inside the van, and he finally hit on the spare tire.(Nothing was in the spare tire). They examined the tire, and then searched the van thoroughly and found a hot plate, balloons, syringes, and a small foil of meth. We were all charged with poss. of paraph./poss. of meth; plus they had additional charges. There may be nothing to say, but I don't want this charge and I don't often say I'm a victim of circumstance. Most of the assumptions of my involvement are true, but none of us knew that all of those articles were in there. Do I have any outs?

I suggest that you hire an Attorney and first see what the state has in their file. YOu may have several outs, and then again, you may not. No one knows untill the prosecutor makes full disclosure of the file.
