Legal Question in Criminal Law in Arkansas

Theft by deception, accused unaware

A man in AK accuses man in NC who is buidling him a kit car of theaft by deception, a warrant was issued in AK, the accused had not been made aware of the warrant While driving in Utah the accused was stopped for speeding and arrested on this warrant meanwhile he was unaware that the accuser had filed any charges. The accused has a contract with the accusser but there was not completion date specified. Due to a long term illness and subsequent death of a grandchild, the accused taken over a year so far and obviously made the accusser mad. When the accused posted bail in Utah, AK then doubled the amount to 28K, more than some murders get... Negotions between the two parties insued and an agreement was reached, just before signing off the accuser changed his mind, asking for more (extortive??) The DA in AK wont give details of the warrant, wont speak to the accused regarding the case. What should we do and does this seem on the up and up. A bail bondsman in AK made the remark that this town makes it's own laws.... How do we even go about dealing with this.

Re: Theft by deception, accused unaware

I assume you mean Arkansas when you write AK. If you are actually talking about Alaska, then disregard my answer since I am from AR and only licensed here.

Your case sounds unusual. Was this a federal case? Why were you arrested in Utah for an AR warrant? The accused wouldn't have (shouldn't have) anything to do with the amount of your bond. The bond would be set in the state you are in. Were you in court, or just bonding out of jail?

I really need more details to give you any type of an adequate answer.
