Adopted childs relationship to spouse

I married in 1994, my granddaughter was 4 years old and had lived with me since she was 11 months old. I adopted her in 1995. My husband helped support her until he became disabled in April 2002. SSA says she does not qualify for benefits as a stepchild, due to me adopting her after the marriage! What is the legal relationship between the child and my husband?

I disagree ... however there may be other factors that have influenced their decision. You need to go to a good Atty and have an interview wherein the Atty can ask all of the questions that need asking and help you to reach the right conclusion. Many questions such as yours are good questions, but may be the wrong question to get the answer you need. This can be solved with an interview.
