Legal Question in Family Law in Arkansas
adoption
I was contacted by a 13 year old girl that wants to put her unborn baby up for adoption. I was told that this would be expensive and messy because of her age. I was told that especially living outside of Texas it would be hard.
Is it true that we would have to have an attorney for her and another for ourselves? How much does an adoption cost? What do the legal fees normally run?

Re: adoption
I don't think it is absolutely necessary for both of you to have attorneys, but it would be best. Because the girl is a minor, it creates extra legal concerns. There are some contracts that minors can't consent to without adult advisement and co-signing.
The legal fee depends on what all needs to be done in this adoption. It can run anywhere from a couple of hundred dollars to several thousand if the attorney were to have to travel. That is highly unlikely, however. It also depends on where the girl is and where she has the baby.
I know I haven't fully answered much for you but I need a few more details.
An attorney will often offer you a free initial consultation to see what needs to be done, advise you, and let you know how much this will cost. But I would strongly advise sitting down and talking with an attorney immediately. I don't know if you have done this before but there are so many things that need tending to and you want this to be a happy occasion, with as little stress as possible. You are starting a wonderful undertaking and you want to do it as well as you can.
