Legal Question in Family Law in Arkansas

Breach of promise to marry

While living in the state of Washington, I gave a substantial amount of gifts to someone in Arkansas with the understanding that we were to be married. I subsequently moved to Arkansas with the understanding that we were to be married and that I would receive some financial support from her. It cost a lot of money to move, buy a house, sell a house, etc. It turns out that she had no intention of ever marrying me and broke off the engagement. Can I sue her for the money I spent or gave her as a result of her promise to marry me?

Re: Breach of promise to marry

Do you have anything in writing? You would need to prove that you had these expenses strictly on the promise that she gave you, and that she never intended to marry you. Then, you may have a case. What county are you in? You may want to consult an attorney if you want to pursue this.
