Legal Question in Family Law in Arkansas

disabled and divorce

When I married in 1996 I was a 38 yr. old mother of three and had just began my full time career as a rural carrier for the us post office. I began working for the po in 1987 part time. While on vacation in 2000 my husband and I were in a one vehicle accident that left me paralyzed from the waste down. Since then my husband has become partners in a construction co. We are getting a divorce . What are the laws if any reguarding these type of circumstances?

Re: disabled and divorce

There is nothing to keep you from getting a divorce.

However, in the divorce, you are entitled to a share of the property of the marriage. I suspect you want to know if you are entitled to a interest in your husband's construction company. The answer appears to be "yes," but there are specific facts that must be evaluated to give you a clearer answer.

The best advice is to contact an attorney in your area to assist you through the process. Good luck.
