Legal Question in Family Law in Arkansas

Divorce needed: absent spouse, child involved

I was married in 1994. Shortly after the marriage (within 3 months), we separated. I went to live in another state. I found myself expecting a child. The child was born in MI, where they made me put my husband's name on the birth certificate since I was legally still married. I couldn't find my husband and could not afford an attorney at the time. I am now trying to locate him, and get a divorce, and I need him to sign off rights to the child he did not father. I am going to get married again, and my fiance wants to adopt my child. Where do I even begin?

You proceed under the adoption statute and another law that went into effect a year or so ago where if Dad does not pay Child support for a year and has no relationship with child for a year then you can terminate his rights. This is a complicated area of law, so don't go it alone. Hire an Attorney. If we can help drop us a line.
