Divorce settlements

My ex & I have been divorced 2 years now. We had no property settlement. I agreed for him to keep the house and pool. I have no legal papers showing I am no longer responsible for those debts & want to buy my own home but can't get financed because of it. How can we resolve this without him having to go to the trouble & expense to refinance?

He will have to refinance. Currently you are still responsible on the note (the court cannot extinguish your contractual responsibility, it can only force him to pay). It is also in your best interest in case he defaults.
