Who inherits

My mom died in 94' and her dad died in 96'. I was only 14 when he died. He has one surviving daughter and 3 grandchildren including me. He also has a brother. So when he died his brother told me they had money put up for me til I got 25, well I'm 27 now and I found out that there was nothing. His brother believes that I wasn't suppose to get anything anyway because only the surviving daughter gets everything, hich is not true right? Because my mother is dead so I would've got everything that belongs to her right?

If you grandfather died intestate (without a will), his estate would go his surviving daughter and you. So that makes you right. See California Probate Code Section 240.
