A minor child who has been under my care for 6 months now, due to her mother's death last April has no legal guardian. The only papers that have been filed with the court were in 1999 and they were temporary change of custody to an inidividual who is not even in the scene right now. what legal recourse do i have

As the "de-facto" guardian, you need to do SOMETHING! Assuming that you want to be the perminant guardian, you will need to file an action with the probate court in your county and ask that you be appointed guardian of the child.

I suggest that you hire an Attorney ASAP and get it done before someone else steps in and you have a fight on your hands.
