Legal Question in Family Law in Arkansas

Recourse against false paternity claim?

A woman has accused me of being the father of the child she is currently pregnant with. I dated the woman but never had sexual intercourse with her. Therefore, I am obviosly not the child's father. I intend to initiate a prenatal paternity test to prove that I am not the father. However, this woman has caused me alot of misery by telling my family that I am the father and that I am "refusing to support my child." This infuriates

me and I wonder if there is any way to "even the score" once the test results are received.

I'm licensed in Tennessee and not in Arkansas, so you might want to consult with a local attorney, but here and in most other states you would be able to sue the woman for libel.

But one thing to keep in mind if you sue her is that even if you win and get a judgement against her, you can only collect if she has assets that can pay the judgement.... and if she has nothing, that's exactly what you will be able to get -- nothing.
