Legal Question in Family Law in Arkansas
Are we still responsible for child support?
History:
''Father'' found out about child when the child was 2 Yrs old. Child is now 5. All past child, support was paid in full. Very limited visitation occurred, due to ''mother''.
''father'' is married and has 2 other children. ''mother'' moved out of state. ''father'' agreed as long as he received his court ordered visitation.
''father'' received his visitation once, then all other requests for visitation was denied.
Now:
''mother'' asked ''father'' to give up parental rights, so that ''child'' can be adopted by ''mother's'' boyfriend. ''Father'' agreed to get ''mother'' out of his life.
''father'' reasoned that he will never be able to have a true relationship with ''child''
Questions:
Father signed a standard consent form. And that is the last we heard. Now we are getting letters from Child Support Enforcement, that -- they are not going to follow through with collections, but we ''really'' need to pay support through them.
How do we know she has followed through with adoption? Could we be held responsible for the last year that we have not paid any child support?
FYI: child has Indian heritage through ''father''

Thank you for your question. Yes, there is the possibility that you will will owe child support if the adoption did not go through. You need to seek legal counsel.
