widowed spouse caring for stepchildren
My mother in law was raised by a woman who married her father and lived in Arkansas. After her fathers death (when she was 8) her stepmother continued to raise her and later moved to Texas. Her fathers death occured in 1963. I would like to know what the laws were reguarding weather the stepchild would legally be considered her child since she raised her, or would she still be considered stepchild. Or maybe a better way to ask; is if it was required for her to adopt this child; or because of the marriage she had no need to adopt?
Any help in this would be greatly appreciated.
