Legal Question in Employment Law in Arkansas
unjust termination - almost a yr ago
I may have waited too long to do anything with this, but I was terminated on February 20th 2003. I was working for--name removed--local bank in Arkansas. The reason for this termination was because of--name removed--bad credit report. First of all, I was surprised and shocked when I was hired, because the credit report was bad then as well, and no more. Almost 9 months later, they ask me to come in to work 2 hours early just to let me go. The credit report was pulled that morning and the decision was make, I guess, right away to terminate my employment. Here's what the other employees thought about the situation:
Another gentleman that worked with me, who was black, was also terminated that same day (after me.) He was the only person in the bank branch that was not white. My co-workers thought that they fired me so that he couldn't walk out and file descriminatory charges against them. However, like I said, my credit report was in no worse shape on Feb 20th than it was 9 months earlier when I was hired.
Do I have reasoning to file lawsuit?

Did you have an employment contract? Did you have an employee handbook? I would need to see what the bank was allowed to fire you for. Also, was there a written report when they let you go? There may be a statute of limitations issue here, also.
It is possible you have a case, but I need more details.
