Legal Question in Employment Law in Arkansas

Wrongful Termination

I was recently terminated from a job of 20 yrs. During this time I missed (1) day and never received a written reprimand. At the time of firing I had not had a evaluation in 3 1\2 yrs. Make note I was let go apprx. 7yrs before this for telling boss if he did not stop coming in drunk while I was on vacation, I would have to report him to osha (he was also saftey coordinator). They then wanted me to come back because manufacturing was in real bad shape and another boss that was married to the owner was about to be fired. He came to my office and got took me to his office where the HR and another director was and informed me of termination. They said I wasn't getting along with other bosses and wasn't the person that they felt was co-operating with our new lean process. In which I was and all you had to do was look on the floor and see what we were acheiving. Till that date our CEO was praises me for all we were doing. Than You!!!

Re: Wrongful Termination

Did you have an employee contract or was it just an oral agreement? Did the company have an employee handbook? What type of business is this company?

A company can usually fire an employee for "cause". That means for a legitimate reason. Often these potential reasons are listed in the contract or employee handbook.

If you were an employee at will, they can fire you for just about anything except race, gender, creed, religion, etc. that are protected under the Constitution. An employee at will is one without a contract, employee hand book, private business, that has no labor agreement.

If you will email me back the answers to my questions above I might could help you more with what your options are.
